In what has ended up being a pretty chalky, blue-blood filled Final Four, the action kicks off with Villanova and Kansas in New Orleans on Saturday. The glaring issue with Villanova is of course, the loss of Justin Moore who was second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. The Wildcats simply do not have the depth to replace his scoring, which they will need against a Kansas squad that ranks 22nd in the nation in offensive efficiency and plays at a much faster pace than Villanova, especially without Moore. The Villanova bench is thin with no extra player averaging more than ten minutes per game this season.

The loss of Moore is going to be evident and Kansas needs to take .........

For the first time in history, these two blue-blood squads will face off in the tournament. It might be the biggest March Madness game in recent memory, and perhaps ever. This is a Duke team that seems destined to cap off Coach K’s farewell tour with a tournament win. They’ve handled some fairly stiff competition in Texas Tech and Arkansas, and simply put on paper are a better team from top to bottom than the Tar Heels. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be a cakewalk, but if Duke can execute its gameplan it should be able to clinch a spot in the tournament finals.

The weakest unit in this game is by far North Carolina’s defense, which is allowing a 235th ranked 71......

It’s been an odd year for both of these teams. They were both expected to be near the top of the Western Conference standings, and while Utah has shown glimpses, it just hasn’t been the dominant defensive team it has been in the past. The Lakers sit at 31-43 and are in serious danger of missing the play-in tournament altogether. It’s going to be a tough spot for the Lakers at altitude, especially when they are looking ahead to hosting the New Orleans Pelicans the next night in what could determine the playoff seeding in the West. When these two teams met in mid-February, the Lakers emerged victorious.

An Eastern Conference showdown between two of the favorites to win it all, Giannis and the Bucks visit Kevin Durant and the Nets in Brooklyn on Wednesday night. Everything for Brooklyn changed when the State of New York lifted its COVID-19 restrictions for unvaccinated players, allowing star guard Kyrie Irving to suit up for home games. At this point in the season, you need to start looking at who needs this game the most. Brooklyn currently sits in eighth place in the East and is on the verge of having to play in the play-in tournament to even make the playoffs. The Bucks on the other hand sit tied for second in the East with the 76ers and Celtics, who are all one game behind the Miami .........

This year’s Cinderella team is definitely Saint Peter’s. After knocking off College Basketball royalty in Kentucky, the team also dispatched Purdue, a team that many people had making the Final Four. How are they doing it? They are playing slow and making the other teams try to beat them with what little offensive possessions they have. But the main mismatch again, like I’ve stressed so many times when analyzing college basketball, is the rebounding.

The Hurricanes find themselves in their first ever Elite Eight matchup on Sunday, in what is their toughest match-up to date. Miami dispatched Iowa State with relative ease on Friday by a score of 70-56. Now they get to take on Kansas who is a stellar 14-4 against Big 12 opponents, although Miami is just as respectable against ACC opponents with a 14-6 record. Offensively the two teams match-up well against each other, with the 42nd and 20th best offenses in the nation respectively.

The true mismatch in this game is on defense, where Miami has played better as of late, but still ranks 245th compared to 71st for Kansas. In its three games against Auburn, USC, and Iowa State, the Hurricanes .........

Coach K’s farewell tour continued on Thursday as the Blue Devils managed to outduel the Red Raiders from Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Arkansas had one of the strongest games of the tournament as they knocked off top-seed Gonzaga with relative ease. Duke will likely open as the favorite here based on name brand alone. The one thing that scares me about Arkansas is that their offense is pretty anemic for a team that dominates in their wins. If you read our last two picks you went 2-0 in the Sweet Sixteen round as both Houston and Arkansas cashed for us. The Cougars dispatched of Arizona with ease, sending the top-ranked Wildcats home. It doesn’t get any easier for Houston who faces a Villanova team that ended Michigan’’s run with a 63-55 victory on Thursday. Both of these teams play slow, methodical basketball as they rank 316th and 345th in offensive pace respectively. Despite the slow pace, both teams rank amongst the best offenses in the nation and they have two different styles in getting there. In a major contrast from the other one-seed, Mybookie sportsbook only has Arizona as a 1.5 point favorite against the Houston Cougars, in what could be one of the tightest games of the tournament so far. Arizona narrowly, and I mean narrowly, beat out TCU in overtime on Sunday, and really didn’t gain much confidence in the eyes of bettors. Meanwhile, Houston shocked the four-seed from Illinois, beating them by 15 points. Gonzaga had a scare against Memphis last Saturday, and needed a 51 point second half to beat the Tigers by four points. That’s going to be tough against a 35th ranked Arkansas defense that is playing some of its best basketball of the season right now. This should be a high-flying game with the two teams ranking 36th and 10th in offensive pace respectively. Arkansas hasn’t exactly been tested yet in the tournament with wins over Vermont and New Mexico State. Obviously Gonzaga is on another level from those teams, but Arkansas has fared well this year against top-ranked teams with wins over Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, and three wins over LSU.
