Florida entered Game 1 as a -160 favorite on the moneyline, and a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay entered Game 1 as a team that everyone believed would be exhausted after its series against Toronto, as well as playoff fatigue from the previous two seasons. So of course the Lightning walked into Sunrise and won the game convincingly by a score of 4-1. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised as the Lightning walked into Florida and took both games on the road in last year’s series as well. The Blues had the early lead and a superhuman effort from Jordan Binnington, but still couldn’t knock off the Avalanche in Game 1 of the series. Colorado bested St.Louis in overtime on a Josh Manson wrist shot from the point to take a 1-0 series lead and extend its playoff winning streak to five games so far this postseason. Jordan Binnington had 54 saves but had no answer when he was screened on Manson’s seeing-eye shot in overtime. The Blues were actually lucky to get it to overtime to begin with, and will likely need Binnington to match this type of performance in each game of the series if St. Louis has any hope of winning.

On Sunday, both teams from last year’s NBA Finals are in crucial Game 7 matchups in the second round. The defending champs failed to put away the Celtics at home in Game 6, so will have to travel to Boston in what will certainly be a raucous TD Garden. Jayson Tatum and Giannis Antenokounmpo went head to head in Game 6, with Tatum putting up 46 points while Giannis had a ridiculous 44 points and 20 rebounds in the loss. Milwaukee has certainly missed shooting guard Khris Middleton in this series, as Giannis and Jrue Holiday have been forced to shoulder most of the offensive load. Home court has not necessarily been an advantage in this series, and shows how well both .........

In what looks to be one of the best Western Conference rivalries in the making, Luka Doncic and Devin Booker have been going to head to head all series. On Thursday, it was Doncic and the Mavs getting the best of the Suns with an impressive win by the score of 113-86. This sets up for a Game 7 back in Phoenix on Saturday night, as the top team in the NBA looks to avoid getting knocked out of the playoffs in the second round. One of the main differences in Game 6 wss the points scored off turnovers where Dallas outscored Phoenix 29-6. Dallas’ defense has been solid this year. They seem to be letting Phoenix score at will in the paint and down low with Deandre Ayton, .........

Miami Leads the Series 3-2

This series heads back to the City of Brotherly Love where the Heat can finish off the Sixers with a win. Game 5 was a surprising blowout in Miami with the Heat winning 120-85 and holding Joel Embiid to just 17 points and James Harden to just 14 points. Miami had the convincing win even without starting point guard Kyle Lowry who is still nursing a hamstring injury. Backup point guard Gabe Vincent filled in admirably with a stat line of 15 points 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 27 minutes. The Heat were distributing the ball well on Tuesday with PJ Tucker and Jimmy Butler posting 7 and 6 assists respectively.

Phoenix Leads the Series 3-2

It was a rout on Tuesday night when the Mavs came to Phoenix. The Suns won 110-80 in a game that was never close. A 28-point effort from Devin Booker with 14 each from Miles Bridges and Cameron Johnson were enough to send the Mavs back to Dallas for a critical Game 6. I’ve been on the Suns all series and was surprised that Dallas has kept it so close. The same thing can be said for the New Orleans series where Phoenix just seemed to let its guard down for a couple of games. Is it playoff fatigue from a deep run last year? It very well could be. Milwaukee saw the same letdown spot against Chicago but came back to win the series 4-1.

The lines have been fairly close in this series, but the Bucks opening at -1.0 after winning a game they were -2.0 favorites in is interesting. Both teams have rebounded from a loss well, and Game 3 went down to the wire, resulting in a Milwaukee push of the -2.0. It was a controversial call to end the game as Boston guard Marcus Smart claimed he was fouled while in the act of shooting a three-point shot. The ref ruled he was not yet in the shooting motion, and awarded Smart two free throws instead of three. At the time of the call, Boston was down by three points, so you can see why the Celtics and their fans were upset. Not much changes in my handicap of this series. These ......

Conference Semifinals Game 4 Monday May 9, 2022 at 10:00 pm ET

The spread for this game is not out yet as it hinges on the health of star point guard, Ja Morant. The Memphis guard tweaked his knee in Game 3 and was seen limping as he left the arena. As explosive as Morant has been this season, his wild style of play has led to a few minor injuries throughout the year. The Warriors were -7.0 favorites in Game 3 at home, and eventually won by 30 points. If Morant is out for Game 4, we can expect Golden State to be double digit favorites at the bare minimum. You will likely read all of the analysis of how good Memphis was without Ja in the regular season. But these are the playoffs and Memphis is playing one of the more playoff proven teams.........

Kentucky Derby Post Time: Saturday May 7, 2022 at 6:45 pm ET

The 148th Run for the Rose's takes place this Saturday as the 2022 Triple Crown kicks off from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Last year saw Mandaloun and jockey Florent Geroux take the top prize. It was a race that was shrouded in some controversy after Medina Spirit crossed the finish line first, ahead of Mandaloun. Unfortunately for Medina Spirit and trainer Bob Baffert, the horse tested positive for betamethasone after the race. Medina Spirit was disqualified and the win was handed to Mandaloun instead. Baffert will be noticeably absent on Saturday as he serves a suspension that will prevent him from entering any horses until 2023.
