Sugar Bowl: Baylor (7) Vs Ole Miss (8)
Saturday January 1, 2022 at 8:45 pm ET on ESPN
This year’s Sugar Bowl features the Baylor Bears and Ole Miss, in a battle between two of the better offensive units from the regular season. It looks as though Baylor will have quarterback Gerry Bohanon back under center for this game, and will be playing opposite one of the top quarterback prospects in the NCAA in Matt Corral. It has been confirmed that Corral will play in the Sugar Bowl before making a decision on whether or not he will declare for the NFL draft. Baylor has done well as an underdog this season going 4-1 straight up and 4-1 against the spread. Baylor will also insist on utilizing its rushing offense, which was ranked 24th in the nation in terms of rushing yards per .........
Fiesta Bowl has Oklahoma State (9) Vs. Notre Dame (5)
Saturday January 1, 2022 at 1:00 pm ET on ESPN
There are a few interesting matchups in this year’s New Year's Six bowls, but perhaps none more than two teams that had a legitimate shot at making the College Football Playoffs. The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lock horns in Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl, and for the Fighting Irish, it represents one of the more unique situations in recent Bowl game history. Shortly after the regular season ended, long-time Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly announced he was accepting the head coaching position at LSU. Stepping in to replace Kelly is former Notre Dame defensive coordinator, Marcus Freeman. Needless to say, the short-term coaching change should see Notre Dame .........
Autozone Liberty Bowl: Texas Tech @ Mississippi State -10
It is Big 12 versus SEC in this year’s Autozone Liberty Bowl at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The main storyline in this matchup is of course, the Mike Leach revenge game as the Mississippi State head coach takes on his former Red Raiders squad. Leach’s Air Raid offense is fully installed at Mississippi State, as the team ranks dead last in rushing success but third in the nation in passing with an average of 386 passing yards per game. The handicap of any Mississippi State game is how good the opposing secondary is. Well, Texas Tech ranked 239th in the nation in passing yards allowed, and 186th in the nation in total yards allowed per game. Quarterback Will Rogers should have his way with the Texas .........
Birmingham Bowl: Houston (20) vs Auburn
This year’s Birmingham Bowl has a fairly exciting matchup as the Houston Cougars take on the Auburn Tigers in Birmingham, Alabama. Despite Houston finishing with an 11-2 record in the AAC, Auburn gets the Power 5 and SEC head nod to be favored by just under a field goal. Obviously the major news in this game is the transfer of Auburn quarterback Bo Nix to Oregon for next season. This means that backup quarterback TJ Finley will be under center for this bowl game. Finley is coming off an ankle injury that hampered him through the last few weeks of the season, but the quarterback does believe he will be 100% for the Birmingham Bowl. Both teams have decent offenses, but Auburn’s defense is likely the strongest unit in this game. .........
Ball State @ Georgia State -6.0
Is everyone ready for some MACtion on Christmas Day? Ball State and Georgia State lock up in this year’s Camellia Bowl which takes place in Montgomery, Alabama. Why is that significant? It’s much more of a home game for Georgia State than Ball State who travels in from Indiana. These two teams haven’t met since 2016, and like many bowl games, the teams just do not have much of a history against each other given that they are from different conferences. When it comes to any game featuring Georgia State, the main handicap is how good the opposition’s run defense is. Georgia State operates a triple option run game that puts the team 17th in the nation in total rushing yards per game. Ball State has an above average .........
Memphis @ Hawaii +8.5
This year’s Hawai’i Bowl features the Memphis Tigers and the hometown Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Let’s start with this: it’s a long trip from Tennessee to Hawaii, but for many of these kids Honolulu isn’t such a bad place to spend Christmas. Psychology is a major factor in College bowl games, and Memphis isn’t quite as down about travelling as you might think. Next, with the way Memphis closed out the season they are likely thankful to even make a bowl game. After starting the season 3-0, Memphis found a way to lose six of their final nine games. It was a disappointing year for Memphis who has been a force in the AAC the past few seasons. Hawaii is dealing with its own turmoil right now as it will be .........
Las Vegas Raiders @ Cleveland Browns +2.5
What a flip of the script in this game. As COVID-19 continues to ravage NFL locker rooms, the Cleveland Browns have been one of the worst hit teams this week. Most notable, quarterback Baker Mayfield has been ruled out of this game to do health and safety protocols, which means it is backup quarterback Case Keenum taking snaps. Before Mayfield was out, the line sat at about -6.0 for the Browns, which means we have seen a swing of more than a touchdown on the point spread. Meanwhile the Raiders are still unsure if they will have all pro tight end Darren Waller, who has yet to practice since injuring his knee in Week 12 against Dallas. With the game just over two days from now, it seems unlikely that Waller will suit up once again. Las Vegas ............
NCAAF & NFL Are Full Steam Ahead
We made it to the part of the NFL season where the Saturday games are scheduled. College football is in a lull after all the bowl games were decided last week; those games will actually begin this weekend with the Bahamas Bowl and the roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl, but the "real" bowl games will start to kickoff around Christmas. There are 44 bowl games, and all have the lines and spreads ready to go. While we wait for those games to get under way, the NFL has some important games on the schedule, with playoff implications on the line. The Jets and Dolphins game won't matter too much, although Miami has won 5 in a row, and are not technically eliminated just yet like New York is. The Eagles-Washington game will have huge .........
Green Bay Packers @ Baltimore Ravens
The major question mark in this game isn’t COVID-19 for once, it is the health of Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson. The dual threat signal caller left last week’s game against Cleveland in the first half after spraining his ankle. He hasn’t been ruled out yet but Jackson has also yet to practice this week. Head Coach John Harbaugh said that Jackson is a game time decision, but that the Ravens are planning on having him start. The Packers are coming off a win at home against Chicago, although the start was not what they were expecting. The Packers defense has been solid so far this year, but it gave up 27 points to an anemic offense in the first half, before clamping down in the second half. The Packers offense .........
New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts -2.5
This is a line that has confused sports bettors all week. The hottest team in the NFL is coming off a bye and is not favored against the Colts who are barely above .500. Running back Jonathan Taylor has single-handedly taken the Colts and put them on his back in the second half of this season, and already has 16 rushing touchdowns to his name. But what do the Patriots do best? They try to take away your best weapon, and make you beat them with the rest of your team. It seems like a good strategy to make Carson Wentz throw, rather than rely on Taylor to carry the load. On the other side, the Colts have already been openly talking about making rookie quarterback Mac Jones beat them through the air. So it seems like both teams are going to.........
