It is Big 12 versus SEC in this year’s Autozone Liberty Bowl at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The main storyline in this matchup is of course, the Mike Leach revenge game as the Mississippi State head coach takes on his former Red Raiders squad. Leach’s Air Raid offense is fully installed at Mississippi State, as the team ranks dead last in rushing success but third in the nation in passing with an average of 386 passing yards per game. The handicap of any Mississippi State game is how good the opposing secondary is. Well, Texas Tech ranked 239th in the nation in passing yards allowed, and 186th in the nation in total yards allowed per game. Quarterback Will Rogers should have his way with the Texas Tech secondary, and keep the clock moving as the Bulldogs dominate the time of possession. Texas Tech does have the offensive firepower to keep up with the Bulldogs for a while, but Mississippi State’s defense should be able to make some stops, especially with the time being a factor. This game has shootout written all over it, and don’t be surprised if Leach does not let off the brake. His record in bowl games is only 8-8, and is always a topic of conversation at this time of the year. I just think the Bulldogs have the perfect matchup for their offense, and should be able to put up points at will. Give me the Over 58.5 at the Liberty Bowl this year.
