Gonzaga had a scare against Memphis last Saturday, and needed a 51 point second half to beat the Tigers by four points. That’s going to be tough against a 35th ranked Arkansas defense that is playing some of its best basketball of the season right now. This should be a high-flying game with the two teams ranking 36th and 10th in offensive pace respectively. Arkansas hasn’t exactly been tested yet in the tournament with wins over Vermont and New Mexico State. Obviously Gonzaga is on another level from those teams, but Arkansas has fared well this year against top-ranked teams with wins over Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, and three wins over LSU. Arkansas stacks up pretty well against Gonzaga except in one category: three-point shooting.
The Razorbacks rank 286th in three-point field goals made and 321st in three-point FG%. That’s not going to cut it against a Gonzaga team that is 23rd in three-point FG% and the second best offensive efficiency in the nation. Arkansas will need points and need them in a bad way. The line opened at -8.5 and has ticked up to -9.0. It’s not a significant move but it seems that both pros and joes are on the Bulldogs to bounce back from a shaky performance against Memphis. How am I betting this game? First, I like the Over 155 in this game, although both teams do have strong defensive units. I’m actually going to go against the grain here and back Arkansas with the points. Gonzaga has not looked as dominant lately and Arkansas is a team that many people are sleeping on. Take the +9.0 on the Bulldogs with XBet Sportsbook, but you may want to wait until Thursday because you might get an even better line.
