It’s been an odd year for both of these teams. They were both expected to be near the top of the Western Conference standings, and while Utah has shown glimpses, it just hasn’t been the dominant defensive team it has been in the past. The Lakers sit at 31-43 and are in serious danger of missing the play-in tournament altogether. It’s going to be a tough spot for the Lakers at altitude, especially when they are looking ahead to hosting the New Orleans Pelicans the next night in what could determine the playoff seeding in the West. When these two teams met in mid-February, the Lakers emerged victorious.
There is a growing belief that Anthony Davis will return this week from a foot injury, which would definitely boost the Lakers’ chances to make the playoffs. He would have to contend with Rudy Gobert, but it gives the Lakers another dimension to their offense. Both teams will be desperate for a win here, but a returning Davis could give the Lakers the push they need. Also keep an eye on Lebron’s status as he rolled his ankle last week and is a game time decision for Monday’s game. This is a tough game to handicap, but with playoffs on the line for both squads, I’ll be going with the Under in this game. I believe both defenses will show up in this crucial showdown.
