The AL West kicks off with the Astros visiting the Angels in Los Angeles. Shohei Ohtani gets the nod for the Angels, while it looks like Framber Valdez will start over Justin Verlander, with Lance McCullers on the IL to start the year. The Angels get the biggest offseason acquisition of any team with the return of a fully healthy Mike Trout. The multiple time AL-MVP confirmed his calf is back to full strength, and he is ready to get back out there and dominate the league again. The Angels will be hoping for a better year from Anthony Rendon and continued progress from solid breakouts like David Fletcher and Jo Adell. Adell in particular was a highly touted prospect, and will be looked upon to help out Ohtani and Trout with the offense.

The Astros let Carlos Correa walk in free agency to Minnesota, but have the powerful combination of Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez ready to take the next steps. The Astros offense is solid but top heavy, and will struggle at the back of the lineup. Houston has historically been able to get to Ohtani, who can occasionally struggle against strong offenses. Call me crazy, but I think the return of Trout can boost this Angels team to a home field victory to open the season. I think the odds will be pretty close in this one, but I am taking the Angels to win and sprinkling a little on the -1.5 runline which should be at plus odds!
