Play In Game: 7:30 pm ET on Friday April 15, 2022
A home underdog in the last round of the play-in tournament shows you all you need to know about how the public views Atlanta right now. The line started at -1.0 after the victory over Charlotte on Wednesday night, and has already moved to 2.5 overnight. A lot of this handicap will pivot on the health of Cleveland center Jarrett Allen. At the moment he is a game time decision, and if his finger is good enough to go he adds a major boost to both sides of the court. The thing about Charlotte is they don’t play any defense. Cleveland had the seventh best defensive rating in the league this season. Atlanta center Clint Capela dominated Charlotte but he won’t be able to do the same against the Cavs.
Even if Allen doesn’t play, Evan Mobley has been more than a competent rim protector in his rookie season. The Cavs can match up well with Atlanta, and they have a much deeper bench than Charlotte does, especially with veterans like Rajon Rondo and Kevin Love bolstering the second unit. Atlanta runs through Trae Young, and if Darius Garland and Isaac Okoro can slow him down, then this game should be a lot closer than either of the two play-in games each team has already played. A slight lean to the Under here, but I am also going to let the line move as much as possible in Atlanta’s favor before betting Cleveland as a home underdog.
