Two Southeast division rivals face off in the second play-in game on April 13th as the Spurs visit the New Orleans Pelicans. San Antonio won the most recent matchup by the score of 107-103, on March 26th, and won 3 of 4 against the Pelicans this season. The Spurs weren’t given much of a chance this season, but the young group of players came together over the course of the year. Dejounte Murray established himself as the clear leader on this team and youngsters like Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell stepped up in a big way under the guidance of Coach Popovich. The Pelicans were also written off early, especially given the absence of star Zion Williamson.
But a strong chemistry between Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas, and they received plenty of support from a deep and underrated bench. At the trade deadline, the Pelicans added star shooting guard CJ McCollum, which really boosted this offense. Neither team plays particularly strong defense, although I am staying away from the Over in a Popovich coached playoff game. WIth two teams that know each other well, and both squads at relatively full health, I don’t really see New Orleans as five point favorites here. Give me the Spurs at +5 and sprinkle some on the moneyline as well!
