Game Time: Sunday April 10th at 1:35 pm ET
The Reds took the opener to this series on Thursday with a surprise win over Braves ace Max Fried. Atlanta is certainly missing some depth in its offense with Ronald Acuna Jr. still on the IL nursing a torn ACL from last year, and of course, the departure of Freddie Freeman. On Sunday, it looks like the Braves will get their first look at Reds top pitching prospect Hunter Greene. The rookie begins the season in the rotation for the Reds after Luis Castillo and Mike Minor both started the season on the IL. The Braves will be starting Ian Anderson, who was impressive at times last year with a 3.58 ERA although he’ll look to improve on his 1.231 WHIP.
Anderson looked okay in spring training, although he gave up three home runs and five walks in only eight innings of work. Greene was actually the more impressive of the two, giving up four home runs and striking out eleven in only nine innings. On paper, Atlanta should be the better team, but something seemed missing in their opening day loss. It could be the absence of Freeman and Acuna, but something just seemed off. Dansby Swanson and Adam Duvall struck out seven times between them and Marcel Ozuna, Matt Olson, and Ozzie Albies combined for just one hit. Perhaps it will take a little getting used to for the Braves, or perhaps, it is just the World Series hangover hitting them early in the year. While I lean Atlanta, I think the Over is a better bet if the Braves bats can get to Greene.
