In a battle of the sixteenth seeds, Bryant and Wright State will tangle in Dayton. Ohio. You might be wondering who Wright State is, and you’re not alone. The Raiders play in the Horizon Conference and knocked off Northern Kentucky to take the conference championship, punching their ticket to the big tournament. Bryant is probably a little more well-known but they play in the equally obscure Northeast Conference where it dominated Wagner in the championship game. Incredibly, Bryant is playing in its first ever March Madness tournament, and are incredibly not even favored in this game after winning 16 of its last 17 games of the season.
Not surprisingly, both teams rank fairly low in Kenpoms rankings , with the Wright State offense looking like it is the best unit in this game. Taking a look at the key statistics, Bryant actually has quite the edge when it comes to rebounding and 3pt-shooting. These are two metrics that matter, especially in a one game playoff. Bryant also plays at the 16th fastest pace in the nation and if it can dictate the game, Wright State might have difficulty keeping up. The Raiders also employ a fairly short rotation, which means a higher pace game could lead to some exhaustion in the second half. With all of that being said, the metrics point towards Bryant having an edge here. I’m taking the points and even betting some on the moneyline for the Bryant Bulldogs.
