Another opening night Big 12 matchup sees the Red Raiders go toe to toe with the Cyclones. In their only other meeting his year, Texas Tech won the game by a score of 72-60. While these two teams are separated by talent, both squads play a very stingy defensive system. Texas Tech is ranked sixth in the nation in defensive efficiency and the Cyclones are ranked a respectable 24th. The Red Raiders had a lackluster end to the season, going 1-2 in their last three games, including disappointing losses to Oklahoma State and TCU. This comes on the heels of a four game winning streak that saw Texas Tech knock off the defending national champs from Baylor.
Are the Red Raiders hot and cold? Or were they just going through the motions at the end of the season against inferior competition? Iowa State is coming off of a fairly close loss to Baylor, in what has been a fairly mediocre season all around. When I look at how these two teams match up, it’s all about proximity to the hoop. Texas Tech and Iowa State rank 288th and 246th in the nation respectively from downtown. They also play at the 234th and 241st slowest paces in the country, setting this playoff game up for a beautiful under bet. If I were to take a side, I would lean Texas Tech, but given how well these two teams matchup against each other, I’m going to jump on the Under before it is steamed down before tipoff .
