Game Time March 6 at 12:00 pm ET
Houston has been a difficult team to bet on this year. They have an incredible, if not deceiving, record at 26-4. But its competition hasn’t been too fierce, and it has already lost to its two largest AAC rivals SMU and Memphis this season. With the AAC tournament taking place next weekend, Houston will definitely want to make a statement against Memphis on Sunday. But can they? Memphis has been underrated this entire season, and while Penny Hardaway leaves some things to be desired at the coaching position, the talent on the team is strong and can compete. The story of Memphis all season is the tremendous pace it can push, especially at home.
Houston plays at the 305th slowest pace in the nation and Memphis plays at the 36th highest pace. If Memphis can continue to push the pace it will once again be able to take Houston out of its defensive comfort zone. Memphis will also need to hit its shots though. The Tigers are not a great three-point shooting team, and will need to battle down low against Houston’s bigs. Memphis has a sparkling 12-2 record at home and is 9-1 in their last ten games, including a win over Houston. But this is March and this is when great teams show up. If Houston is the great team we think it can be, then lay the points in what should be a statement game from the top seed in the AAC.
