For the marquee matchup of the weekend, we head to Columbus, Ohio where the Buckeyes host the Spartans in a crucial Big Ten showdown. For two teams ranked so highly by the College Football Playoff Committee, it is almost surprising to see the Buckeyes as a 19-point favorite. Both teams are 9-1 heading into Week 12, and are on a collision course for the Big Ten Championship game. Michigan State has been fairly dominant in Big Ten play, knocking off rivals like Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska, and Maryland so far this season, with a lone loss to Purdue. Ohio State has been equally as dominant, with only a loss against fourth-ranked Oregon early in the season. The handicap of this game is fairly simple at first glance: can the Spartan offense led by running back Kenneth Walker, take advantage of the suspect Buckeye defense? Ohio State gave up nearly 500 yards to Purdue last week and 31 points. If it wasn’t for an offensive explosion, the Buckeyes may have been in trouble from the Purdue giant slayers. The Spartans certainly have some explosive play ability on offense with wide receivers like Jalen Nailor and Jayden Reed. Walker also poses the strongest run game that Ohio State will face since Oregon, and we saw how that game ended. The only issue here is that Michigan State’s defense has been awful, ranking 241st in the nation in total yards allowed and 258th in passing yards allowed. The Spartans can stop the run, but CJ Stroud should be able to throw all day on this secondary. Still, it’s too much of a spread between two teams that are more equal than they appear on paper. I’m taking the points with Michigan State, and at +750, it never hurts to sprinkle a little on that moneyline!
